In World War II, Dr. Josef Mengele worked as a doctor in Auschwitz, a concentration camp. Mengele is infamous for the deaths of thousands of children. He is most known for his experiments on twins. However, Mengele also experimented with hair and eye color. The doctor also observed behaviors of children when faced with certain situations, along with the spread of diseases. During his reign in Auschwitz, from May 1943 to January 1945, Mengele experimented on over 1,500 pairs of twins. Only one hundred pairs are known to have survived. His experiments were painful and often unnecessary, and most of his subjects died due to complications. Dr. Mengele performed surgeries to remove limbs, organs, and tissues, and he injected his subjects with deadly diseases. Most surviving members of Mengele’s experiments still refuse to discuss their experiences with the doctor.
