Josef Mengele’s experiments had two main goals: to create a perfect Aryan Race and to help German soldiers in World War II. A first goal for Mengele was to create a perfect Aryan Race. He used twins to see how different races of people had different eye, skin, and hair color. His goal was to be recognized by Hitler for his services to the Nazi Party. Dr. Nyiszli, a coworker of Mengele’s, stated, “Mengele's purpose… was to establish the genetic cause for the birth of [Aryan children], in order to facilitate the formulation of a program for doubling the birthrate of the 'Aryan' race” (Holocaust 1). The second goal of Josef Mengele’s experiments was to aid German soldiers in World War II. In an article on Mengele, the article states, “Mengele had become interested in ... experimenting… in order to trace the genetic origins of various diseases” (United 1). Mengele’s goal was to find cures for certain deadly diseases that were killing the German soldiers. This doctor also performed high altitude experiments to help pilots. Mustard gas and Poison experiments were also carried out by Mengele to aid german soldiers on the battlefield. Through accomplishing both goals, Mengele hoped to be recognized as a hero to Germany.
